Overton Playingfield

Overton is very lucky to host a Playingfield with various items of play equipment for all ages which has been well maintained over the years. Not only the local community but people passing through the village and from the surrounding areas visit the Playingfield throughout the year.

In September/October 2013 Overton Community Council ran public consultations around the village asking what new additional equipment they would like to see put in the Playingfield – and from this the three pieces of equipment chosen were:

  • Nesting Swing
  • 4M Activity Net
  • Wooden train engine and two carriages

In March 2014 we put a grant funding application into WREN for funding towards the above equipment. In August 2014 we received the fantastic news that we had been successful in obtaining the grant.

As part of the grant application we had to fundraise towards it. Overton Community Council received a donation from James Elson’s Estate – James left a sum of money to be donated to charities associated with him and his family. His family said that he would be pleased to know that his legacy was helping the community in which he grew up.

We also had lots of volunteers from the community help fundraise in many ways, one way was a ‘Snack Shack’ that ran from May to July on Friday afternoons after school in the Scout Hut – this was a great success. Rachel Harris also did a sponsored run in Ireland raising £100. Without all this support this would not have been able to happen – thank you to all who have supported this project. Please continue to support ongoing fundraising events (this will help maintain the play equipment).
