About Overton on Dee
Community life is very much an important part of Overton.
The village was best described by judges of the Calor Awards as ‘the most complete characteristic village of all the entrants. It has a close community, lots of co-operation and it is a flourishing place with a good cross section of village life.’
The centre of the village is designated a Conservation Area
with buildings dating back many hundreds of years. A well balanced mixture of older and modern properties offer homes for all generations and criteria.
The large number of organisations and activities within the village
encourages all of the residents to contribute to the community. A high number of businesses are also within the community including a good selection of shops and eating places. These offer employment opportunities as well as friendly convenience. Good medical facilities and an award winning school further enhance daily life.
Overton has a very progressive and pro-active Community Council
which looks after the general well being of the community. Residents are encouraged to bring matters of concern to the Council. One was the issue of road safety and residents joined with the Community Council in a campaign to have speed restrictions on the approach roads into the village, this has been implemented. We are very fortunate to have the active support of the Police in this and general community matters.
Welcoming visitors to our community is always a pleasure,
each year performers from the International Eisteddfod at Llangollen are offered accommodation in our homes. The Twinning Association host reciprocal visits with La Murette and they too stay in our homes.
There are many things happening within our community, they cannot all be categorised.
They just come under the heading of being a good neighbour and a caring community.
